ARTIST BIODATA
John Ainsworth John grew up in the wheatbelt town of Corrigin. He has been painting in watercolours since 1995 and has received over 150 awards. He exhibits in over 50 group exhibitions every year.
Greg Ash Greg has been working in glass for some nine years. He is influenced by nature and the combination of colours found in WA. One of the pieces in this auction is a fused panel from a drawing made by Devin Garner when she was in Year 7 at Mt Lawley Primary. The second piece is a jewellery set of sparkling dichroic glass which was influenced by the colours of WA's sea.
T. Brian Aylward Brian was born in 1939 at Warnham, West Sussex, UK and studied art part-time at Horsham Art School. He immigrated to WA in 1968 and has always been stimulated by the Australian light and countryside. Since 1990, he has been a full-time artist working from his studio at Wooroloo. Brian has appeared in "Australian Artist" and has presented many talks and workshops and taught art at TAFE. His art can be found in private and corporate collections around the world.

John Baldock John is currently director of Alpha Studios Inc, a private art school dedicated to the development of creativity. He has been a teacher and lecturer in art and is currently artist, teacher, writer and art course designer. John combines art and psychotherapy and has written a book called "God can be Downloaded." He has held 50 art exhibitions overseas in Singapore, Britain and USA.
Charles (Jana) Benjafield Charles' primary source of inspiration is the interior landscape. Charles says of his own work, "I don't paint what I see, I paint what I feel, think and imagine. I have no specific style. The visual quality of the work I produce is dependent on the idea or emotion I am trying to express." Charles has exhibited in many local exhibitions and has won awards for his pastels and drawings.

Janneke Biehl Janneke was born in the Netherlands and immigrated to Australia as a young child. After completing a Diploma of Teaching she spent many years developing young children's art in her role as a primary teacher. Now retired, she lives in Perth and has returned to her love of art. Janneke explores a range of media including gouache, watercolour, ink and mixed media. Her work has been successfully exhibited in group and community exhibitions.
Christine Blowfield As a pastel and acrylic artist, Christine paints objects and scenes of nature and enjoys concentrating on colour and perspective in her subjects. Christine feels that drawing and painting are a part of her "being" and hopes that people feel content and relaxed when they view her art.
Marilyn Boast Marilyn loves colour and paints with passion. She originates from New Zeland but sees herself as a genuine Aussie now. Marilyn has studied Art at Fremantle Arts Centre and is a member of the Wanneroo Art Society. Marilyn has won a number of awards and held her own exhibitions and shows in Galleries around WA. She loves to capture people doing what they do best.
Deborah Bonar Deborah's development as an artist and her Aboriginal identity are strongly interlinked. Her art is an exploration and a celebration of her Gija and Yamatji heritage, and through her art she is reconnecting with her cultural heritage. She uses Kimberley ochres to paint the true colours and landscapes of her Gija grandmother's country. Deborah feels a strong spiritual connection to those paintings. Deborah is now an established artist who paints with acrylics, oils and ochres. She produces delicate ink drawings and likes to experiment with printmaking. With a group of other artists, Deborah is involved in producing public art works. She is also a qualified graphic designer and creates digital artwork.

Lindy Boyle As a child, Lindy was first inspired to use rich colour by watching her mother paint in oils. Lindy's paintings expose a love of life and the beauty of nature. Her multi layered abstract creations are bold and emotional. Texture and collage are incorporated into her bright floral images; landscapes and the human form are painted as she feels them - flowing and at times abstracted. Lindy has been teaching abstract art classes for 4 years and never tires of the interaction with other artists.
Cassandra Burton Cassandra first attended Art School in 1965 after receiving a Commonwealth Scholarship. After many years of separation from art, she returned to study at Curtin University and was accepted into the Honours program where she was ranked in the top 1% of students. Cassandra's art has won several awards and hangs in public and private collections in WA and Canberra.

Craig Bush Craig has a background in graphic design and has been a keen photographer for over twenty years. These talents coupled with being an avid observer of all that surround him, have resulted in his gaining a growing reputation for being the creator of beautiful and thought provoking pieces. Craig is currently preparing for his first major joint photographic exhibition.

Doreen Byrne Doreen's painting and sculptural forms are inspired by the Australian landscape. Her images capture the feeling and inspirations, the visual and the memories of a place. Her diptych "Movement in Blue" is an exploration of the ever changing colours and patterns of the ocean and underlying reef off the beach at Quinns Rocks.
Janine Cairnes Janine is a self-taught artist who took up painting in retirement. She has participated in workshops in Australia and Europe, has been the recipient of several awards and has been published in "Australian Artist" magazine. Janine's subjects include flowers, seascapes, boats, old buildings and birds. She has participated in many joint exhibitions and held two solo exhibitions. Janine's vibrant work is held in both Australia and overseas collections.
John Cartwright John first started to paint in 1971 and soon after had his first solo exhibition at the Churchill Gallery in Subiaco. Since then he has been shown in exhibitions throughout Australia and has participated in charity exhibitions at schools and colleges since 1977. John has also built up a picture framing business to help with framing his works. John is a long time supporter of this Auction.
Jillian Ciemitis Jillian is a practising photographic artist who has held solo and numerous group exhibitions in NSW, Victoria and WA, receiving considerable recognition and awards. Her work favours studio based emotive and intuitive photography which draws from her diverse grounding as a printmaker as well as a creative and commercial photographer.

Peteris Ciemitis Peteris is an urban designer and artist whose paintings are held in collections ranging from the National Portrait Gallery to the Valmeira Museum in Latvia; as well as numerous public and corporate collections. He has won many prizes and has twice been a finalist in the coveted Archibald Prize and was honoured by the prestigious Black Swan prize for portraiture in 2010. Peteris' work revolves around ephemerality and identity.

Helen Clarke Helen has been a practising artist for more than 25 years, predominantly as a printmaker. She creates artworks using drawing, painting and printmaking. Helen is excited by the constant diversity of the landscape, and studies, grows and photographs Australian flora. Helen wants to create more understanding of the necessity to conserve our unique environment, and to teach people to use printmaking as a creative medium to explore visual ideas. Her current and ongoing works are hand-coloured etchings and reduction lino prints that explore the flora, fauna and landscapes of Australia. Helen has a studio in Greenough and outlets throughout Australia.

Guo Qi (Danny) Deng Danny is originally from China. From 2007 to 2009 he was President of the WA Oriental Culture and Art Association Inc, and held a solo exhibition in the Bankwest Tower in 1996. In 2002, the Perth Mint launched a limited edition of 100 gold coins for the Lunar Year of the Horse, and Danny produced 100 Chinese paintings of horses to accompany the gold coin sets. His work "Flower Heaven" won first prize in the Australian Arts Magazine Art Prize Challenge in 2008.
Kerrie Di Cataldo Kerrie is interested in many facets of the photographic medium, from darkroom to digital. The feeling generated through an image is what she considers to be the most important aspect relevant to the viewer. Winner of two photographic art awards, as Associate Diploma of Arts (Photography major) and former TAFE lecturer, Kerrie is represented in both private and public collections including Central TAFE, Town of Vincent, MLSHS and the Holmes à Court collection.
Pippin Drysdale Pippin is a celebrated Western Australian ceramicist. She has been an Artist in Residence and given master classes throughout Australia and overseas and has held over forty solo and in excess of 300 group exhibitions worldwide. Her work is to be found in collections throughout the world. Pippin is inspired by the Australian landscape.

Julian Fisher Julian was born and educated in South Africa, married and went to live in England, travelling extensively in Europe. Upon his return to South Africa in 1957, he specialised in design and watercolour presentation of projects. He soon started painting and found he could interpret subjects/objects from within, creating orchestrations of form, colour and integrity, expressing the corporate profile, essence and technology of subjects in a semi-abstract/expressionist style and in his other works, used inner flare to present art with a spirit of adventure and mystique, leading the onlooker on a mission of discovery. He immigrated to Australia in 1988 and obtained commissions from major companies.

Dr. Drewfus Gates Drewfus, a professional artist for 27 years, is the winner of over 100 art awards including a five-time finalist in the Moran National Portrait Award. Painting in oils, pastels and watercolours, his powerful use of light and colour and his realist/impressionist style has made him a well known WA artist.

Francesca Gnagnarella Francesca was born in Italy in 1984 and now lives and works in Perth. Always creative, she developed her artist techniques during high school. In 2004 under the tutelage of sculptor Vito Pancella she began her artistic career creating bronze sculpture Partage but decided that painting was where she most wanted to concentrate. Her painting techniques were further developed while studying for a degree in the History of Contemporary of Art. Francesca's works were first exhibited in Rome and Paris in 2006 and are currently represented in private, public and church collections in Italy and Australia.

Naomi Grant Naomi is a contemporary indigenous Australian artist, a descendant of the Wiradjuri people of central NSW. Born in Sydney, she has made her home in Perth for the past thirty years. Naomi has a successful career as a practising contemporary Indigenous artist and designer. She graduated from Curtin University with a BA in Design and has pursued a varied career from a self employed artist to promotional manager. Bold colour and the beauty of creation are strong inspirational elements that help mould each painting. Often these ideas spring from dreams, visions and memories of her travels. In the past ten years she has been focusing on the use of acrylics and collage techniques.

Keith Hamilton Keith is WA born and is now recognised as a skilful and dedicated artist. He is well known for his use of vibrant colours to produce beautiful paintings of floral and landscape subjects. His works have won numerous prizes and have appeared in the magazine "Australian Artist". Keith is also the Vice-President of the WA Society of Arts.
Sandra Henderson Sandra retired from full-time teaching Art and English a few years ago and is now immersed in her own art rather than that of her students. She has exhibited widely and won several awards. Sandra is often inspired by the intricacy, form, shape, texture and colour of flowers. She endeavours to capture the essence of the flower and its secret life, rather than that of a strictly botanical view. Sandra works mainly in watercolour with the addition of gouache, inks and acrylics and prefers to focus on the micro rather than the macro view.
Patricia Hines Patricia received her Associate in Art and Design from Western Australian Institute of Technology in 1970 and an Associateship in Industrial Design from Gordon Institute of Technology, Geelong, Victoria in 1971. Since then Patricia has been teaching and exhibiting throughout WA and her work is represented both nationally and internationally in public and private collections.

Alma Hotchkin Alma studied Commercial Art at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and holds diplomas in Art Studies and Printmaking. She has spent many years painting with oils, watercolours, pastels and dyes. Alma exhibits around WA with regular showings in both solo and group exhibitions.
Nonie Jekabsons Perth born artist Nonie studied art and design at Perth TAFE, graduating in 1992 with a Diploma of Fine Art. She has been involved in several group exhibitions in Perth. Insatiably creative, Nonie works in a range of media. Her creative talents go beyond painting and include writing, music, installation and photography. The primary thematic focus of Nonie's visual art has always been the impact of human activity on the environment.
Martin Kidd Martin was born in Subiaco WA. He lectured in Fine Art at Claremont School of Art and Central School of Art for 17 years and has exhibited in many galleries in Perth, both in solo and group shows. In 1994 he moved to the Costa Del Sol in Southern Spain where he exhibited in several galleries. Returning to Perth in 2004, Martin has continued to paint. His works are represented in several local and overseas galleries.
Zhong Hua Lu Lu graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing in 1990, specilising in wood block printing. He immigrated to Australia in 2000 and in 2001 he held a personal art exhibition at Fremantle Art Gallery. In 2009 He won first prize in the oil painting category at the Town of Canning Centenary Celebration.
Narelle Manser-Smith Narelle is a multi-award winning artist with a Bachelor of Arts and a background in education. As a visual artist, she is inspired by light and movement in nature and loves expressing these qualities through an abundance of texture. Her work is represented in public, corporate and private collections throughout Australia including that of Robert Juniper's.
Lawrence Marshall Lawrence has been involved with photography since 1976, producing editorial, publicity images for book for and record covers. He regularly presents workshops in photography and the photographing of paintings for their creators. He is currently working in fine art photography.
Sunita McWhinney Sunita grew up in an artistic household. She holds a Bachelor of Education majoring in art and has studied art and design at TAFE. Sunita has worked with various media, applying her creativity to jewellery, collage, textiles and more recently watercolour and thread.
Lesley Meaney Artist, teacher, curator, writer - Lesley arrived in Australia in 1969. From 1973-1983 she was head of Art at Fremantle College of TAFE and Art coordinator at Karratha College of TAFE. Lesley has had 19 solo exhibitions as well as numerous group shows nationally and internationally. She is represented in many public and private collections and has won a number of prizes and awards.
Phillipa Newby After a 38 years working as a secondary school art teacher, Phillipa has launched into a new life as an artist and adult art coach. Since 2008 she has entered numerous exhibitions and been commissioned to produce several large wall murals and wall paintings. Her approach to art is eclectic using mostly 2D media. She explores many themes somewhat figuratively but with a personal touch. The work exhibited here reflects a favourite approach: that of showing movement in varied genres.
Ray Palmer Ray was born in London 1973 and moved to Australia in the early 1980s. His has had formal training in electronic engineering and web design. During the day he runs an import machinery company and at night shoots the heavens. Ray has many links to the astronomical world across many continents. He does a regular astronomy spot on 6PR and has had his Astrophotography published in overseas magazines and Australian newspapers. Ray has had numerous exhibitions around Perth, with his most recent at Burswood Intercontinental Resort. His photograph "Star Trails and Trees" comes framed with the actual slide (negative) and a meteorite built into the frame from behind the glass. The negative can also be illuminated by LED lights that have been built into the frame.

Kate Parker Kate is an ex-student of Mt Lawley Senior High School having graduated in 2004. She has just completed an Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts and Contemporary Crafts at Central TAFE. She is already a regular contributor to exhibitions and was recently awarded a NAB Sculpture Scholarship with an invitation to submit work for the 2011 Bondi Sculpture by the Sea. Kate was successful in having her entry accepted for the exhibition.
Leon Pericles Leon holds his place as an important Australian painter and printmaker with more than 140 exhibitions throughout Australia and overseas, a 20 year retrospective in the WA Art Gallery in 1989 and a satirical touring exhibition (the Twiggy Puggenheim Collection) in 20 galleries around Australia in 1996. His extraordinary creativity, imagination and creative skills have resulted in a body of work which engages and challenges the viewer to experience his unique, sometimes narrative, often whimsical and frequently absurd view on society and landscape. He is published and represented in the national and state galleries.

Vivienne Peters Vivienne graduated from Claremont School of Art in 1984. From 1987 to 1994 she lectured in Fine Art at TAFE while painting and exhibiting her own work. From 1994 to 2004 Vivienne lived in Spain working as an artist and musician. During this time she had solo exhibitions in Spain, Holland and Amsterdam as well as participating in mixed exhibitions. Since returning to Australia she has been exhibiting regularly. Being a musician, Vivienne is very aware of the correlation between music and painting. Both art forms set moods by conveying abstract values of colour, composition, light and movement.
Ken Rasmussen Ken grew up in Broome, Marble Bar and other WA country towns. In 1983, he completed a BA in Fine Art, majoring in painting at W.A.I.T. Since graduating he has painted professionally, gaining a reputation for his drawing, watercolour and oil skills. He is considered to be at the forefront of today's realist-impressionist painters.

Colleen Rintoul Colleen has a background in secondary education and theatre design and decor. Since retiring from teaching she has immersed herself in her passion for art. Although Colleen generally works in acrylics, she also produces pieces using oils, mixed media, watercolour and drawing. Her favourite subjects are landscapes and the human form. Colleen has taken part in many group and open exhibitions winning several awards along the way. She is also involved in curating and judging art shows and exhibitions and continues to work in theatre.
Sandy Robertson Sandy has a recognisable style of watercolour painting. Her subjects include landscapes, beach scenes, city scapes and flowers. Sandy's painting career has included teaching overseas and interstate. She is dedicated to promoting the beautiful art of watercolour and is the current plein-air coordinator for the Watercolour Society of WA.
Judy Rogers Judy was born in Hungary, moved to Perth in 1995 and works in the Blend(er) Gallery, Joondalup as a curator and has an artist studio in the Tresillian Art Centre in Nedlands. Judy has participated in more than 100 solo and group exhibitions in WA and Victoria. She has worked on major public art commissions and received considerable recognition and awards.
Jane Ryan Three years have passed since Jane was first introduced to abstract painting and what a journey! The move from mosaic sculpture and ceramics which was her life for nine years has led her to exhibit in local art awards, participate in a joint exhibition and also bring pleasure to family and friends through her paintings. This is Jane's third year as a contributor to the MLSHS Art Auction and she hopes you enjoy her new found creativity.
Joanna Stimson Joanna is a teacher and loves colour and texture. The beading used in the creation of the bracelet "Spring Fling" reflects this love. This piece took over 40 hours work to create. Joanna's other creation, "July", is named for the turquoise used in the necklace, turquoise being the birthstone for the month of July.
Charles Warren Charles studied art and teaching at Curtin University and has worked as a teacher for the last 17 years.
Aurelie Yeo Perth born WA artist Aurelie has become well known for her treatment of the local landscape and her sensitive portraits, both detailed studio and portrait sketches, in various media. She has travelled throughout WA and NT on various painting trips, some of which have been the inspiration for 20 solo exhibitions. She has conducted painting and drawing courses and workshops and has participated in over 100 mixed and invitation exhibitions.
Peta Zeller Peta was born at Mount Barker WA and now resides in Perth. She began painting at a mature age after a life long love of drawing. In 2009 Peta was involved in a combined exhibition at the Atwell House Gallery and in 2010 won the people's choice at the Animal Art Award. Peta is represented in a growing number of private collections both here and in the UK.

Rachel Zimmermann Rachel graduated from Cumbria College of Art and Design, United Kingdom in 1999 after which she completed a Postgraduate Certificate of Education. Since graduation she has continued to develop her own creative practice as well as fulfilling her role as an Arts educator both within school institutions and community organisations. In WA, Rachel has been a teacher and visual artist in several independent schools and director at SODA studios. She is currently developing her own company providing services to schools, children and art educators, and continues to develop her making practice.
