VIP Opening Speaker - Mr David Hawkes - Former ABC News Presenter & Former MLSHS P&C President

Until his retirement 7 years ago, David Hawkes was one of Australia's most experienced and versatile broadcasters. He had been "on air" for 48 years, working in radio and television for the ABC and commercials networks in NSW, QLD and WA.

On radio 6WF, he took over the breakfast session from the legendary John Juan and hosted broadcasts by the WA Symphony Orchestra. In 1984 David joined the staff of the WA Academy of Performing Arts (Edith Cowan University) to set up the Media Performance department. He returned to the ABC in 1987, and was chiefly heard reading the news.

Since hanging up the head phones he has been a regular guest speaker for many clubs and organisations throughout the metro and country areas.

WHY

Over the years, this auction has grown in stature to be the most professional of the "amateur" auctions in WA. It provides the best auction opportunity for local artists.

Funds raised from the auction enrich the education of our next generation of actors, musicians and visual artists, our students. This includes the sponsoring of tours, training sessions and the purchasing of equipment.

The Community Art Auction is a joint venture between the Music Support Committee and the Specialist Visual and Performing Arts (SVAPA) Support Committee under the auspices of the Mount Lawley Senior High School Parents & Citizens Association Inc.
