VIP Opening Speaker - Mr Max Kay AM CitWA- Entertainer and Community Patron

Local resident Max Kay is a tireless worker for the Community, sitting on many Boards and committees and devoting time to his favourite charities.

Max arrived in Perth from Scotland in 1967 and soon became one of Western Australia's most sought after performers. In January 2001 Max closed the Civic Theatre to pursue other goals of a community nature, by concentrating on various charitable causes that he had helped throughout his business career and running for the City of Perth Council to which he was elected.

In June 2001 Max's contribution to the entertainment and hospitality industry, was recognised when he was awarded the Citizen of the Year for the Arts Culture and entertainment category. In the same year, he was thrilled to receive the Premiers award for 'Legend of the Hospitality Industry'. He earned his highest accolade in January 2003 when he was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for services to the entertainment industry and for charitable works.

That same year he was proud to be one of 1300 Australians to receive the Prime Minister's Centennial Medal. Max was always extremely grateful to have been awarded The Vietnam Logistical Support Medal and a special Citation from the Commander of the American Defence Force General Abrahams, for his services in entertaining troops from both countries as an initiative of the Australian Government.

Auctioneer - John Cook - Auctioneer of Renown

John has wielded the hammer so adeptly at our past five auctions, combining his art knowledge with wit, humour and business. We are pleased to see him back in the hot seat again this year. John's company, WA Art Auctions, holds regular auctions of quality Australian & International paintings, lithographs, limited editions, objet d'art, Antique & quality reproduction furniture, Persian rugs and collectables.

WHY

Over the years, this auction has grown in stature to be the most professional of the "amateur" auctions in WA. It provides the best auction opportunity for local artists.

Funds raised from the auction enrich the education of our next generation of actors, musicians and visual artists, our students. This includes the sponsoring of tours, training sessions and the purchasing of equipment.

The Community Art Auction is a joint venture between the Music Support Committee and the Specialist Visual and Performing Arts (SVAPA) Support Committee under the auspices of the Mount Lawley Senior High School Parents & Citizens Association Inc.
